TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 2-ranked Arizona women's swimming and diving squad finished their 1 dual meet season in style by running away from Arizona State early and holding on for a 142-101 victory over the No. 18 Sun Devils today at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Meanwhile, the second-ranked Wildcat men were upset by the No. 11 Sun Devils by a final tally of 128-115. The UA women end their season with a record of 9-2 overall, 4-1 in the Pac-10, while the men finished 5-3, 2-2 in the Pac-10. Note: The meet was contested in short course meters as this year's NCAA Championships will be held in that same format.

For the women senior All America Denali Knapp was a two-event winner as she captured the 50m free in a time of 25.89 and finished first in the 200m back (2:13.42). The Cats dominated from the beginning as UA captured the first four events and never looked back.

Other event winners included the 400m medley relay squad (freshman Beth Botsford, freshman Amanda Beard, sophomore Erin Vogt and sophomore Jenny Vanker; 4:08.47), sophomore Sarah Tolar (800m free; 8:51.60), sophomore Caroline Kilian (200m free; 2:02.20), Vanker (100m free; 56.98), senior Trina Jackson (400m free; 4:15.28) and Beard (200 breast; 2:31.51).

The men's team was led once again by senior All-America Ryk Neethling who outdistanced the field in the 200m free finishing in 1:47.07 and also led a one-two-three Wildcat finish in the 800m free by capturing first in a time of 8:04.79. Finishing second in the 800m free was senior Nat Lewis (8:05.72), while sophomore James Thornton (8:09.17) was third. Sophomore Roland Schoeman also swam strong by winning the 100m free by clocking a time of 21.90.

Other event winners for the men included senior Matt Allen (200 back; 1:58.84), Lewis in the 400m free (3:56.32) and the 400 free relay squad (Schoeman, senior Coley Stickels, junior Ben Anderson and Neethling; 3:17.74).

The Wildcat women next return to action Feb. 24 - 26 when they host the 2000 Pac-10 Conference Championship at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. Meanwhile the men's team will be off until the Pac-10 Championships March 2 - 4 in Federal Way, Wash.
