Arizona Hires Assistant Women's Gymnastics Coach

TUCSON, Ariz. The University of Arizona women's gymnastics program has filled its final staff position, announced head coach Bill Ryden. Tracey Rosenfeld joins third-year assistant coach John Court to complete Ryden's staff for the 2 season.

Rosenfeld comes to Arizona after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State University. Rosenfeld was in charge of recruiting and organizing team travel for the Nittany Lions. She also coached Penn State's gymnasts in all four events and was the primary choreographer of the balance beam routines, while assisting the head floor choreographer. Penn State's 2000 squad was ranked in the top 20 throughout the year and closed out the season ranked No. 7 in the nation after posting a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championship meet.

"Tracey is very excited about coming to Arizona," said head coach Bill Ryden. "She brings an incredible amount of enthusiasm and a tremendous work ethic, and she will be a big addition to the program overall." At Arizona, Rosenfeld will choreograph the balance beam and floor exercise routines. Rosenfeld's other duties will include organizing gymnastics training drills and practices, recruiting, coordinating gymnastics camps, and assisting the gymnasts with their academic responsibilities.

"I was really attracted to Arizona because it has a great gymnastics program with a tremendous amount of athletic support," Rosenfeld said. "The fact that Arizona is the seventh-ranked program for women's sports in the country also played a role in my decision. The UA really has the potential for becoming one of the top programs in the nation."

Prior to her stint at Penn State, Rosenfeld served as a club gymnastics coach for Nittany Gymnastics and Dance where she coached and taught the Level 5 and 6 compulsory routines. She also worked with the Level 8-10 gymnasts on the beam and floor events. Rosenfeld was a recreational and competitive coach at the University of Toronto and Gymnastics Mississauga from 1986 to 1997. A competitive gymnast for eight years, Rosenfeld was a member of the University of Toronto's varsity gymnastics team from 1989 to 1993.

"Tracey comes from a top-notch Penn State program that boasts a winning tradition, and we are looking forward to her bringing that experience to Arizona. She is committed and dedicated, and she looks to be the missing piece to the puzzle," Ryden added.

Rosenfeld is a 1995 graduate of the University of Toronto, with a bachelor's degree in physical health and education. She currently is working toward a master's degree in education.
