Arizona Men's Golf Tied for Second at John Burns Intercollegiate

Sophomore Brandon Smith tied for Second Place Individually

HONOLULU, Hawaii The 24th-ranked Arizona men's golf team is tied for second place after the first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate being played at the Leilehua Golf Course (Par-72, 6,916 yards). The Wildcats shot a 12-under-par 276 in the opening round Wednesday and along with BYU are two strokes behind Texas-El Paso. Rounding out the top five are New Mexico and UNLV.

Arizona sophomore Brandon Smith is tied for second individually with UNLV's Jeremy Anderson after firing a 6-under-par 66. Adrian Quintela of UTEP is two strokes ahead in first place, while Arizona freshman Ricky Barnes joins four others who are tied for fourth place at 4-under-par 68.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats are Derek Gillespie and Cody Beyer, who are both tied for 21st at 1-under-par 71. Arizona's fifth golfer, Scott Moore, shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 51st place.

Due to the tee arrangements and time zone differences, Thursday's second round results will not be available until Friday morning. The tournament will conclude with the third round on Friday.
