Coach Dick Tomey Press Conference Quotes
On the win over Stanford:
"Well, it was a great win because of the circumstances. We had been dealing with the uncertainty of the offensive front all week. We had six offensive linemen dressed who could actually play, and we had to start guys who had never started. But, we still have a long way to go."
"It was really good to get a win against the defending (Pac-10) champion, especially because winning on the road in our conference is difficult. We just have to do it again next weekend."
"We have gotten a lot better because our kicking game keeps growing, and we are playing great defense, which is a function of our playing well on offense and special teams. It is really a matter of all of the components working together. We're taking care of the ball on offense, and that really helps when we're on defense. And, the defense has a passion for defending our goal line, and they have done quite a job because we haven't allowed a touchdown in three of the games."
"What I didn't like about the game is that we had too many penalties, and our execution was not as good as it should have been. Even though we forced six turnovers, you still don't want to give up three. It was the second punt we've fumbled, and we had a fumbled pitch and the interception. We had turnovers when we were deep in their territory, and that took points off the board."
On running back Clarence Farmer:
"Yes, we have been looking for one of the backs to really step up. I think (Clarence) Farmer has made a statement, and he has done a terrific job."
On Arizona's next game at USC:
"USC has more weapons on offense than any other team we have faced this season. They are definitely going to be more dangerous because they are playing at home, and they're coming off a loss."
"With our conference, we have to be ready to play every week. Our performance this week has to be better than it was last week. We are playing hard, but we can't get satisfied. I'm sure USC is going to play their best game, so we have to play our best game of the year in order to compete with them."
