Former Wildcat Drafted by WNBA

Former Arizona women's basketball player Marte Alexander was taken in the third round of the WNBA draft on Tuesday by the Los Angeles Sparks. Alexander, a 6-4 post player whose hometown is Los Angeles, was the 47th overall pick.

Alexander played for Arizona from 1995-98 and still ranks among the UA's top 10 players in career scoring and top five in career rebounding. She was a starter for the 1998 team which made the program's first-ever NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" appearance.

Alexander becomes only the second Wildcat ever to be drafted. Former teammate Adia Barnes was taken in the 1998 WNBA draft as the 32nd overall pick by the Sacramento Monarchs. Barnes did a brief stint with the Minnesota Lynx, as well, and is currently on the Phoenix Mercury roster.
