Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson

On the 1 season:
"It was a difficult year in a lot of ways due to injuries and a couple of guys leaving during the season. I think that the guys responded really well."

"With Richard (Jefferson) out almost half the season and Loren (Woods) with his back problems, everyone did an excellent job. The freshmen made great progress and I don't think we could have expected more than they gave us."

On next year:
"With everyone returning and the experience the guys on the bench received, our depth -- which was a weakness last season -- will now be one of bigger strengths."

"With our experience, the way that the guys played before the injuries and the way the guys who stepped into the lineup, there should be great expectations of our team."

On Being a Possible No. 1 Next Season:
"I don't think any player who comes to Arizona doesn't come her in part because that's what they want. They want the expectations to be high -- and certainly they will be high next year. I woudn't want them to think anything less than they are going to play for the whole ball of wax. That's the way we approach every year."

On the recruits:
"Travis (Hanour) understands that there are two returning guys in the spot he plays, but with his size he can play any of three positions."

"Andrew (Zahn) gives us a big body. He is an excellent passer and a good shooter. He has size, and will be working with the weights."

On the team:
"The biggest thing now with all of the players is taking care of academics. We had less pick-up games this season than we have ever had. We felt we needed to take care of individual things."

On Loren Woods:
"Loren (Woods) has lost a lot of weight and will do all the necessary things he can to get that back and strengthen his back. He isn't going to rush into anything that will affect his full recovery."

The 2000-01 Schedule:
"If you have seen the preliminary schedule, you can see that we are in very deep in terms of the competition we are going to face. We are going to play quite a few of those on the road or neutral site locations. The Maui Invitational is loaded again as it always is (Arizona, Chaminade, Connecticut, Dayton, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, UNLV). We will play Illinois at the United Center, Pudue in Indianapolis at the Wooden Tradition, LSU here, Texas here and we go to Connecticut. We are going to start of series with Kansas, but that doesn't look like it will start until next year."
