Arizona Men's Basketball Press Conference Quotes - Feb. 23, 2000

ARIZONA HEAD COACH LUTE OLSON

On Loren Woods:
"Loren (Woods) is questionable for Saturday's game. We just have to go about preparing as if he is not going to be there. I hope we will be surprised, but it will be a tremendous challenge this week without Loren."

"We are awfully thin, but people probably didn't figure we would play as well as we did last Saturday without Loren (Woods)."

"We are not nearly as tough defensively without Loren (Woods) because of his shot-blocking ability. But, we had good ball movement and got some good looks in the last game. We have good competitors on this team."

On Richard Jefferson:
"Richard (Jefferson) is doing very well. He has been conditioning with Ed Orr (Arizona's trainer) on the court and with weights. He will be x-rayed Monday morning, and if the x-ray is how they expect it, he will be cleared Monday afternoon for practice."

"The time he will play on the Oregon trip will be based on what he can do in practice, but he is looking really good at this point. Richard (Jefferson) is doing everything that needs to be done so that he is ready to play."

On the Arizona State game:
"ASU has been playing very hard defensively, and offensively, they have a catalyst in (Eddie) House. He draws so much defensive attention, which allows more opportunities for everyone else on the team. We know we cannot let him go off for 60 points."

"We have to make sure he (House) doesn't hit a percentage that is going to hurt us. We've been shooting 45 or 46 percent, and we need to keep him under what we are generally going to hit as a team. We will defend him hard, but we do not want to create great percentage opportunities for the other guys."

"It really makes it easier for the other guys to play well when so much focus is on Eddie (House). ASU is really getting a good balance from different people, and they have some veteran players."
