Softball Cats Take Advantage of OSU Miscues

TUCSONNo. 2-ranked Arizona took advantage of three errors by No. 11 Oregon State to score all its runs in a 4-1 victory over the Beavers in Pacific-10 Conference play at Hillenbrand Stadium Sunday.

The Cats put the go-ahead runs on the board in the fifth when Katie Swan reached on a error with one out, and scored on a double by Toni Mascarenas, who moved to third on the throw to the plate. Mascarenas scored on Lauren Bauer's groundout. After a Jennie Finch double, OSU shortstop Shawna Feldt threw away a ground ball by Lindsay Collins and pinch-runner Lindsay Robinson scored.

UA's Becky Lemke (21-3) allowed six hits and earned the victory. OSU's Crystal Draper (10-2) took the loss. Arizona improved to 39-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Beavers dropped to 26-9-1 and 0-3.

OSU took a 1-0 lead in the second with a walk by Brooke Rutschman, a sacrifice by Parisa Plant, a single by Michelle Chariton and an RBI single by Shawna Fedlt.

Arizona tied the game with an unearned run in the fourth when Allison Andrade's single to left was thrown in the dirt at third to allow runner Lindsay Collins to score from second.base.

Arizona plays Arizona State in Tucson at 6 p.m. Tuesday then will face the Bay Area schools next weekend.
