Finch - Softball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Arizona sophomore pitcher Jennie Finch earned Pacific-10 Conference softball Pitcher of the Week honors for her hand in the Wildcats' championship run at the Bama Bash tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last weekend.
Finch, from La Mirada, Calif., pitched two shutouts, including a five-inning perfect game against Drake in the Cats' 9-0 victory. She struck out 10 of the 15 batters she faced. It was her thid career no-hitter and second in as many weeks.
In three appearances (3-0) over 17 innings she recorded 26 strikeouts and walked one, allowing just one run and seven hits.
Teammate Becky Lemke, meantime, could have been nominated for the award as well. She pitched a three-hitter against DePaul, a four-hitter against host Alabama and a two-hitter in four innings in the Cats' 18-0 blowout against Drake to put the club in the title game. In all, she struck out 33 batters in 18 innings.
