Arizona vs. Oklahoma

TUCSON-A display of power by No. 4 Arizona (13-1) tagged Oklahoma (10-1) with its first loss of the year as the Wildcats beat the Sooners, 6-0, for the championship of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

UA had 11 hits off Jen Stewart (7-1) and added a couple more off reliever Lana Moran.

UA's Becky Lemke threw a four-hitter to improve to 8-1 on the year.

Jennie Finch hit her seventh home run of the year, a three-run blast in the fifth. Arizona scored three in the second inning on a single by Chrissy Gil, a wild pitch, an RBI single by Jennie Finch and a two-run home run by Allison Andrade, her fourth of the year.

OU threatened in the sixth when Lisa Carey's double to right-center followed a single by Leah Gulla, but Gulla was cut down at the plate on a relay throw from UA second baseman Katie Swan.

Oklahoma finished 4-1 in the tournament. Arizona was a perfect 5-0.


New Mexico vs. Tennessee Tech

TUCSON--New Mexico's Krissy Keene drove in two runs with a double to center field in the top of the fifth to help lead the Lobos to a 4-1 victory over Tennessee Tech in both teams' final game of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

UNM improved to 8-5 overall and finished 2-3 in the tourney for fourth place. Tennessee Tech opened its season in Tucson and was winless in the tourney at 0-5.

Lobo pitcher Danielle Casarra won the game in relief, holding Tech to one hit in the last four innings. Winning Pitcher - Danielle Casarra (5-1) Losing Pitcher - Brandy Henry (0-3)


Arizona vs. Kentucky

TUCSON--Jaci Kalp pitched a two-hitter to help pace Penn State (3-2) to a 3-0 victory over Kentucky (3-8) and the third-best record in the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic where the Nittany Lions opened their 2000 season.

PSU's Allison Medillin socked a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to give the Nittany Lions the lead and the club later added an unearned run in the sixth on Terra Pracht's RBI single.

Kentucky had a sixth inning single by Nikki Jones and a seventh inning single by Lyndsey Angus for UK's only hits off Kalp (2-1). Keary Camnuas (0-5) was the loser for the Wildcats, who finished 1-4 in the tournament.

TUCSON--Oklahoma beat Kentucky, 13-4, in the late Saturday game of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

Kentucky (3-7) staged a two-out rally in the top of the fifth, averting a mercy-rule shortened game by scoring three times to cut the lead to 9-3.

OU's Mandy Fulton hit a solo home run in the third, then followed an RBI triple in the fourth by stealing home on a botched squeeze play to help lead the undefeated Sooners (11-0) over the Wildcats.

OU's Erin Evans hit a two-run home run shortly after Fulton's triple and UO scored a total of six runs runs in the fourth.

Moran had a no-hitter through two outs in the fifth before five consecutive hits spoiled the effort. KU finished with seven hits. The Sooners totaled 12 hits.

The Sooners and host Arizona, each 4-0 in the tournament, will face off for the round-robin tournament championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Arizona vs. Kentucky

TUCSON--Solo home runs by Lindsey Collins, Jennie Finch and Allison Andrade in the top of the fifth underscored Arizona's power in its 8-0 victory over Kentucky Saturday in Game 11 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

The Cats (12-1) had 10 hits off two different Kentucky (3-6) pitchers. Meantime, UA sophomore Jennie Finch limited the UK to one hit. It was Arizona's fourth consecutive game in the tournament shortened by the eight-run mercy rule.

Chrissy Gil's two-run triple broke a scoreless tie and started an Arizona rally to give UA a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Arizona vs. New Mexico

TUCSON--Arizona pounded New Mexico from the onset in a xxx-x victory in Game 10 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

The Wildcats (11-1) scored six runs on only two hits to take a 6-0 lead in the first inning, chasing UNM starter Danielle Cassara after she hit a batter and walked four. UA sent 12 batters to the plate.

In the second inning the Cats sent 17 batters to the plate. Allison Andrade's grand slam, an RBI single and a three-run home run by Jennie Finch helped fuel the 11-run UA second inning.

The Lobos scored on Brooke Chaffee's solo home run to lead off the second. Arizona had 13 hits in the game.

Penn State vs. New Mexico

TUCSON--An RBI single by Terra Pracht and a run-scoring double by Colleen Kersey in the top of the ninth lifted Penn State (2-2) to a see-saw 9-7 victory over New Mexico (7-4) in the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic Saturday.

Home runs by Daneille Cassara and Kathy Moore highlighted New Mexico's fourth-inning rally as the Lobos took a 7-3 lead.

Penn State scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead in the third on a solo home run by Megan Humphrey, a double by Karen Gulini and run-scoring singles by Erin Norton and Jennifer Tripkin.

Cassara's three-run shot and Moore's two-run blast put UNM up 7-3 but the Lions tied the game with a four-run fifth sparked by a two-run single by Allison Medellin.

Oklahoma vs. Tennessee Tech

TUCSON--Oklahoma (10-0) scored three in the first, two in the second, then Mandy Fulton's first home run of the year, a two-run blast deep into the left-field bleachers, started a five-run rally in the third inning en route to a 16-1 victory over Tennesee Tech in Game 7 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

Fulton punctuated the rout with a grand slam to end the scoring in the fifth.

The Sooners collected 13 hits in dropping the Golden Eagles to 0-3 on the season. OU scored in every inning in the mercy-rule shortened game.

Kourtney Davis (2-0) pitched a three-hitter against TTU.

Tennessee Tech scored for the first time in three games on a sacrifice fly by Whitney Williams in the first inning.

Tennessee Tech vs. Penn State

TUCSON--Penn State scored three runs with a two-out rally in the fourth on an RBI single by Jenny Briz and a two-run double by Terra Pracht to start things rolling in PSU's 5-0 victory over Tennessee Tech in Game 8 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic on Saturday.

Erin Norton and Jennifer Tripken each had two hits for the Nittany Lions (1-2). Jennifer Smith led Tennessee Tech (0-4) with two hits.

Jaci Kalp held TTU to three hits in five innings, while Kelly McCann finished the final two innings allowing only a base hit.

The Golden Eagles remained winless in the tournament, and play New Mexico at 11 a.m. Sunday in their final game of the round-robin tournament.
