Wildcat Softball Classic Results

  • Kentucky vs. Tennessee Tech Box Score
    TUCSON-Kentucky exploded for 14 hits and put a successive 15-0 score against Tennessee Tech to finish the first day of action at the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic Friday night.

The Golden Eagles (0-2) had lost by the same score to Arizona a game earlier.

Kentucky's Leslie Kwiatkowski drove in four runs and Beth Fogle and Nikki Jones each had three hits in the onslaught of scoring in each of the four innings the Wildcats batted in the mercy-rule shortened game. Winning Pitcher - Jennifer Howland (2-1) Losing Pitcher - Brandy Henry (0-1)


  • Tennessee Tech Box
    TUCSON-Arizona sophomore Jennie Finch pitched a no-hitter to help lead Arizona to a 15-0 victory over Tennessee Tech in Game 5 of the Wildcat Softball Classic.

Finch struck out 11 in the game, abbreviated by the eight-run mercy rule. Both UA's games on Friday were shutouts shortened by the rule.

Arizona (10-1) used six hits in a five-run third to stretch a lead to 6-0. Lauren Bauer, Allison Andrade, Erika Hanson and Nicole Giordano had RBIs and Andrade scored on a bad throw.

The Cats sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run fourth, with only two hits, but helped by five walks and two errors by the Golden Eagles (0-1).

Winning pitcher - Jennie Finch (4-0)
Losing pitcher - Adrienne Fortmann (0-1)

Friday's attendance - 1,465


  • Penn State Box
    TUCSON-Lindsey Collins' three-run home run to center field, her third of the year, started No. 4-ranked Arizona's scoring in the first inning en route to a 9-0 softball victory over Penn State in the Wildcats' Arizona Softball Classic.

Collins drove in two more runs in the Cats' sixth-run fifth with a two-run single. Jennie Finch's two-run home run in the frame ended the game because of the eight-run mercy rule.

UA pitcher Becky Lemke held the Nittany Lions to three hits. Arizona improved to 9-1 and plays Tennessee Tech later Friday. The Lions dropped to 0-2.


  • Oklahoma vs. Penn State Box
    TUCSON--Oklahoma's five-run second inning proved enough to boost the Sooners (9-0) over Penn State (0-1), and give them their second victory in the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic Friday.

OU batted around in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single by Leah Gulla and a two-run double by Lisa Carey. Later, in the fifth, the Sooners batted around once again after Mandy Fulton's two-run double sparked a four-run rally.

Penn State scored all its runs in the third on run-scoring singles by Gina Bianchini and Jennifer Tripkin, the Bianchini scored at home on a double steal.

  • Kentucky vs. New Mexico Box Score
    TUCSON--New Mexico (7-2) used a bases-loaded walk to Lainie Horne and a two-run single by Brooke Chaffee to take a quick first-inning lead in its 5-2 victory over Kentucky (2-5) in Game 1 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic.

Kentucky threatened with two runs in the sixth on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Colleen Boddy and an infield error, but stranded three runners when reliever Kathy Moore induced a force-out at the plate and a fly ball to earn her first save.

Losing pitcher - Keary Camunas (0-3)


  • New Mexico vs. Oklahoma Box Score
    TUCSON--Oklahoma's Jennifer Stewart improved to 7-0 and helped keep the Sooners undefeated at 8-0 in a 10-2 mercy-rule victory over New Mexico (7-3) in Game 2 of the Arizona Wildcat Softball Classic Friday.

Oklahoma took a 3-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Jennifer Stump and Mandy Fulton and another when Fulton's hit was bobbled by the UNM leftfielder. The Sooners put up a five-run fifth and closed the game out with a home runby Ashli Barrett in the fourth and the game-ending RBI single by LaKisha Washington.

Losing pitcher - Kathy Moore (3-1)
