Myers Drives in Three as ASU Evens Series with Cats

TUCSON, Ariz.Junior catcher Casey Myers hit his third home run in two days and drove in three runs as Arizona State defeated Arizona, 11-4, in Tucson Saturday night in the second of a three-game series.

The Sun Devils improved to 41-13 with the win, 16-7 in Pac-10 play. ASU is tied with Stanford in second place in the league, a game behind UCLA with one game left in the season. Arizona fell to 26-29 and 8-15.

ASU jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings and matched its season average of 11.0 runs per game which leads the nation. Nine different Sun Devils collected hits.

For the Cats, junior shortstop Keoni DeRenne had three hits and homered for the third consecutive game.

Sophomore lefty Franco Pezely (8-2) earned the win with 5.0 innings of relief work, striking out seven while walking no one. Senior southpaw Rob Shabansky (3-6) took the loss after allowing five runs in 2.2 innings.

The two teams will conclude their respective regular seasons Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sancet Field.
