Jones, Durazo Drive in Four as Cats Sweep Matadors

TUCSON, Ariz.Senior Rafell Jones drove in a career-high four runs, including a go-ahead pinch-hit homer in the sixth, leading Arizona to a 9-7 victory and a three-game sweep of Cal State Northridge in Tucson Sunday afternoon.

Arizona evened its record at 25-25 with the win, while CSUN fell to 18-29.

Jones gave the Cats a 3-2 lead with his two-out homer in the sixth. He drove in two more runs in his only other plate appearance with a seventh-inning single. Junior Ernie Durazo doubled twice and homered for the second consecutive game to drive in four runs as well. Troy Gingrich and Keoni DeRenne combined for six hits in the top two spots in the order.

Third baseman Jason Gorman homered twice and drove in four runs for the Matadors.

Senior left-hander Tony Milo (5-6) earned the win for the Cats, despite allowing three solo homers. Freshman southpaw Bill Murphy (1-6) took a shutout into the sixth for Cal State Northridge but gave up three runs that inning to take the loss. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.

The Cats take a week off before returning to conference play on Saturday, May 13, when they travel to UCLA for a 1 p.m. contest.
