SEATTLE -- Washington ace Jeff Carlsen out-dueled Arizona's top pitcher, Ben Diggins, Friday night at Husky Ballpark, breaking Diggins' personal eight-game winning streak as the Huskies beat the Wildcats, 6-2, in a Pac-10 game.

Diggins, who was called the nation's No. 1 college prospect by Baseball America this week, entered the game with an 8-0 record and a 2.48 earned run average. Carlsen, who improved to 5-1 on the season, is now 21-5 over his three-year career. The 6-foot-7 junior from Poulsbo, Wash., faced only four more than the minimum over nine innings, giving up four hits and one walk while fanning seven.

The Huskies improved to 13-15 on the season and 3-4 in the Pac-10 while Arizona, which has won only four of its last 14 (all Diggins victories) fell to 18-21, 3-7. Diggins finished the ninth, having allowed six earned runs on eight hits and six hits while striking out seven.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the sixth, UW third baseman Michael Done connected off of Diggins for a two-run homer to right field. It was Done's third straight game with a home run. Senior Ed Erickson belted a solo shot in the seventh to make it 5-2. Done singled home the Huskies' sixth run in the seventh

After giving up a single to the first batter of the game, Carlsen had retired 11 in a row before Arizona DH Rob Shabansky belted a solo home run down the right field line to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Washington struck back in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and runners at first and second, both via bases on balls, freshman DH Jay Garthwaite singled to left to plate Ed Erickson with the tying run. In the fifth, Arizona went back on top when Kenny Huff belted a solo home run, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, UW freshman catcher Jefferson Thiel led off with a popup double that fell in between several U of A fielders. He scored to tie it at 2-2 on a single from freshman Tyler Davidson.
