Mote's Grand Slam Helps Cats Stop Three-Game Skid

TUCSON, Ariz.Freshman Trevor Mote collected four hits, including a grand slam, leading Arizona to a 12-8 victory over UC Santa Barbara in Tucson Friday night.

The Cats stopped a three-game losing streak and improved to 14-11 with the win. The Gauchos fell to 8-9.

The Cats lost a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth before taking the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Mote then put the contest out of reach in the seventh with his fourth hit, the Cats' first grand slam of the season. Mote, who drove in six runs, had collected just five RBI all season coming into the game.

Senior center fielder Troy Gingrich scored four runs for the Cats, while junior shortstop Keoni DeRenne drove in three. The Cats stole a season-high six bases.

Sophomore center fielder Andy Campanella led the Gauchos at the plate with two hits, including his second home run of the season.

Senior lefty Tony Milo (2-3) earned the victory, retiring 10 of the 13 batters he faced, including seven in a row at one point. Freshman southpaw Jim Bullard (1-1) took the loss for UCSB.

The two teams will meet again Saturday at noon.
