Cats Pound Out Four Homers in 23-8 Victory over TAMU-CC

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas---Freshman second baseman Matt Abram scored five runs and four Wildcats homered as Arizona defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 23-8, in the Islanders' first ever home game. The game was shortened to seven innings.

The Cats improved to 9-6 with the victory, while TAMU-CC fell to 3-3.

Abram, making his first start at second base, scored in all five of his plate appearances. He is the first Wildcat to score five runs in a game since Jake Thrower did so vs. Arizona State on March 24, 1996.

Senior center fielder Troy Gingrich went 4-for-4, matching his career high in hits. Gingrich, Ben Diggins, Shelley Duncan and Ernie Durazo each homered. Duncan's home run was his fifth in three games. Diggins drove in a career-best four runs.

Senior right-hander Mike Crawford (3-2) earned the victory with 3.0 innings of one-hit shutout ball. He struck out five while walking two. Junior right-hander Shawn Morgan (1-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs over 2.1 innings.

The Islanders, in their first year in competition, committed six errors. They scored six of their eight runs with two outs in the last frame. Junior left fielder Josh Wilson collected three hits for TAMU-CC.

The Wildcats next travel to College Station for a three-game set with Texas A&M beginning Friday at 3 p.m. CST.
