Arizona Tops New Mexico Behind Three Homers, Crawford's Pitching

TUCSON, Ariz.Senior right-hander Mike Crawford allowed just one earned run over 6.0 innings, and three Wildcats homered as No. 19 Arizona won its second consecutive game from New Mexico, 14-7, here Friday afternoon.

The Cats improved to 6-4 with their 10th consecutive win over the Lobos, while New Mexico fell to 3-2.

Crawford (2-1) gave up six hits and struck out seven over six-plus innings. He allowed four runs, though just one was earned. Thanks to five Wildcat errors, just two of the seven runs Arizona gave up were earned. Sophomore right-hander Robert Schulz worked the final 3.0 innings to earn his first career save. Junior southpaw Mike Semprevivo (1-1) took the loss for UNM, allowing five runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings.

Sophomore catcher Chris Cunningham hit his second home run of the season, while junior first baseman Ernie Durazo and sophomore pinch-hitter Ben Diggins each went deep for the first time this year.

Junior shortstop Keoni DeRenne collected three hits for the second straight game, and freshman designated hitter Matt Abram improved his season average to .611 with a 3-for-4 outing.

Center fielder Mark Okano collected three hits for the Lobos.

The two teams will conclude their series Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sancet Field.
