Diggins Shuts Down Lobos as Cats Win, 7-3

TUCSON, Ariz.Sophomore right-hander Ben Diggins shut out New Mexico through 7.0 innings as No. 19 Arizona snapped a three-game losing skid with a 7-3 victory over the Lobos here Thursday afternoon.

The Cats improved to 5-4 with their ninth consecutive win over the Lobos, while New Mexico fell to 3-1.

Diggins (2-0) allowed two runs on seven hits over 8.0 innings. He struck out seven while walking two. Junior southpaw Chris Cooper (1-1) took the loss for UNM.

Junior shortstop Keoni DeRenne went 3-for-3 with a double for the Cats. Sophomore right fielder Shelley Duncan hit his third home run of the season. Freshman designated hitter Matt Abram doubled and tripled.

The two teams will meet again Friday at 3 p.m. at Sancet Field.
