Walsh, Tom Lead No. 2 Cardinal to Sweep of Cats
TUCSON-Senior Kerri Walsh and freshman Logan Tom each posted a match-high 12 kills as No. 2 Stanford swept 18th-ranked Arizona, 15-8, 15-13, 15-11, in Tucson Saturday night, taking a major step towards clinching a share of its sixth consecutive Pac-10 title.
The Cardinal improved to 23-2 on the year with their 12th straight victory, 15-1 in the league. Arizona fell to 16-9 and 10-6. Stanford needs only to defeat Washington and Washington State at home next weekend to at least tie for the Pac-10 title. Stanford is tied in the loss column with UCLA.
Junior Jennifer Detmer had nine kills and led all players with 11 blocks for Stanford, which defeated Arizona for the 12th straight time.
UA was led by junior Marisa DaLee and freshman Lisa Rutledge, who each posted nine kills.
The Cats return to action next Friday, Nov. 19, when the Cats travel to Eugene to take on Oregon at 7 p.m. PST.
