Canidate Named Player of the Week

Following his 202-yard rushing performance against UTEP on Saturday night, Arizona senior running back Trung Canidate was named the Pac-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

In the Cats' 34-21 win, he had 27 carries for 202 yards and scored one touchdown, which was a 60-yard carry. He also had three receptions for 34 yards and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. His 60-yard touchdown run was the eighth-longest TD run in his career and the performance was his second 200 yard game of his career.

In addition, it marked the fifth consecutive 100-yard game for him, tying a school record held since 1974. In the last three games he has rushed for 554 yards on 92 carries (6.0) and scored five touchdowns.

On the year, he has rushed for 866 yards and five touchdowns and now needs just 341 yards in the Wildcats final five games to become the school's all-time leading rusher. Canidate is currently third on the Arizona rushing charts with 3,161, trailing No. 1 Ontiwaun Carter (3,501) and No. 2 Art Luppino (3,371).

This is the third weekly Pac-10 honor received by an Arizona player this season Marcus Bell won the defensive award last week (USC game) and Dennis Northcutt won the offensive award back on Sept. 7 (TCU game).

Arizona will be in action this Saturday, hosting the Oregon Ducks at 7:15 p.m. It will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net.
