General: Probably the most improved player on the team last season, she provided the team with a big lift down the stretch of the 1998-99 campaign... A qualifying medalist in this past summer's U.S. Amateur... Is expected to be a big part of the Cats' success in 1.
Sophomore (1998-99): Came on strong for the Cats in the latter stages of the season and earned a spot in the top-five... Her showings were a big part of the UA's success... In eight tournaments, she had four top-25 showings... Her final three tournaments saw an average finish of 19th... Competed in the 1999 Pac-10 Championships as an individual and was the third-highest finisher for the Wildcats... Tied for 11th with a 7-over-par 223... Was the Wildcats' third-best finisher at the NCAA Championships, tying for 21st with a 12-over-par 228 (76-80-72)... Her third round 72 tied with Jenna Daniels for the UA's best round of the rain-shortened tourney... Was also Arizona's third-best finisher at the NCAA West Regional, tying for 25th with a 12-over-par 228 (81-74-73)... Played as an individual in the Arizona Invitational at Randolph North Golf Course in Tucson and tied for 14th (3-over-par 219).... Owned a scoring average of 76.42... Turned in a tie for 43rd when she competed as an individual at the PING/ASU Invitational on April 2-4... Tied for 18th at the Topy Cup in Tokyo in the fall and tied for 24th at the Stanford Intercollegiate, which was also held in the fall... At the Regional Challenge, she tied for 49th with a 24-over-par 237... Was featured in Sports Illustrated's Golf Plus "Faces in the Crowd" in February.
Freshman (1997-98): The top JV player on the team, Monteiro began her collegiate career in two varsity events... Her low tournament of the season came in the fall at the Stanford Intercollegiate where she shot a 13-over-par 232 to finish tied for 54th... Arizona finished third at that tournament... Finished tied for 54th again at the Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational while firing a 235... The third round was her best of the season... She fired a 3-over-par 73 which was third-best on the Wildcat squad... The team once again finished third... Led the JV squad to a second-place finish at the Santa Clara Colby Invitational while capturing the individual title with an 8-over-par 152 in two rounds of play... That was her lone top-ten finish of the season... Finished the season with a stroke average of 77.38, seventh-best on the team.
High School: Attended Bonanza High School, graduating in 1997... Earned four letters in golf under coach Bob Harris... Was captain for three seasons... Earned letters in softball and soccer... All-State golfer twice, and All-Conference three times... Athlete of the week, month and year in 1997... Golf MVP 1993, 1996-97.
Personal: Christina Lee Monteiro... Born 3/8/79 in Las Vegas... Daughter of Joseph and Betty Monteiro... Majoring in marketing... Member of the honor society, and was named student of the month in English, foreign language and U.S. history at Bonanza HS... Academic All-American, and AJGA Scholastic All-American and graduated as her class valedictorian in 1997.
