Arizona Press Conference
Head Coach Dick Tomey

Arizona's performance at Oregon State:
"The penalties where there's a loss of poise, the personal fouls, are the ones that disturb me the most, but they all do."

"Well, you want to win the turnover battle, you want to be the least penalized team in the conference, and you want to win the fourth quarter. It doesn't matter how many yards you make when you can't do that."

"These areas have not recently become a problem. We identified them earlier in the season, and we have worked harder on them in the last month, but we've almost gotten an inverse result because of misspent energy. It's frustrating for a coach because we are the antithesis of a well-coached team."

"I would have to say that was our best effort of the year in terms of playing hard. Last night you could not in any event fault our effort, but it is still not enough if it's misspent."

"When you put all the penalties and turnovers together, it was just devastating."

"The guys really came to play, but they've just got to play smarter."

Arizona's quarterbacks:
"Well, we were trying to get touchdowns. We had only one productive drive that resulted in a touchdown. We were trying to find the best combination, and we were trying to get the ball in the endzone."

Arizona in the red zone:
"We have to overcome the mental things. That's our challenge. That is where it is the most difficult to score because the field is condensed. We've had more problems in there this season than we have had in many years."

"We have to work hard not to let it continue to be mental. We can't turn the ball over, and we can't get penalized when we're down there."

Team morale:
"You are never quite as together as you want to be if you're not winning. But, the lifesaver in our conference is the rivalry game. The game is unifying and constructive not matter where you stand. It brings the team together, and it gives the team a single purpose."

"We still have one more opportunity to grow up as a football team and to reflect the things that win football games and lead to success."

Arizona's final game at Arizona State:
"ASU at times has looked terrific. They have a very explosive offense, and their defense has had games where it has been very difficult (for other teams) to move the ball against."

"J.R. Redmond is as good a football player in the country, and Todd Heap is one of the most outstanding tight ends in the conference."

"You could say that they have had some similar problems. The team that wins the game will be the team that solves those problems the best."

"When we go up there, I expect their best effort. We'll have to play our best game of the year and then some in order to have a chance of winning."
