General: A walk-on to the Arizona program after prepping at Tucson's Salpointe High School... Third year in the program after redshirting his second season with the Wildcats... Saw the most playing time of his career last season, playing in 11 games... Back-up point guard... Drew the assignment of guarding Arizona's Player of the Year of All-American Jason Terry each day in practice, thus helping improve his game... Has also had to face the likes of Mike Bibby and Miles Simon in practice during his career as well... Grew up as an Arizona fan and was a ballboy for the Wildcats for four years... A good all-around athlete... Has worked extremely hard to make his game better... Mary Roby Academic Achievement award winner last spring (honor for Arizona student athletes who maintain a 3.0 GPA or better for two calendar semesters)... A member of the 1996-97 Arizona team that won the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis... Walked on the program prior to that season.

1998-99 (Sophomore): Scored a career high six points against UC-Irvine, although teammate and roommie Justin Wessel is quick to point out that Ash bettered that outing with eight points in the team's annual charity wheelchair game last April... Made his first career three-pointer in UCI game and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line... Came in and played what was then a career-high six minutes at Brigham Young and missed his only field goal attempt... Played nine minutes in the win over Washington State and hit a free throw... Against Oregon State in Tucson, he was 3-of-4 from the free throw line in one minute of play.

1997-98: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

1996-97 (Freshman): Earned a spot on the team and saw action in nine games, playing a total of 21 minutes... Part of the credit for Arizona's national championship went to him and the other members of the UA scout team who understood their roles in practice situation... Scored his first collegiate point on a free throw versus Robert Morris... Added two rebounds as well... First and only field goal was in the Oregon State win in Tucson... Scored two points and received the most playing time of the season - five minutes... First career steal against Washington State in Tucson... Played three minutes against Jackson State and recorded his first assist.

High School: Played for Brian Peabody at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson... An All-City performer in both his junior and senior seasons... As a senior, was the starting point guard and averaged 10 ppg and handed out 8.0 apg... A three year letterman for the Lancers...Played against 1998 NBA No. 2 pick, and former UA star, Mike Bibby in an outing against Bibby's Shadow Mountain HS... Scored 19 points and had 11 assists in leading his team to victory over what was No. 1 in the state at the time... Bibby's team, however, went on to win the state title.

Personal: John Peter Ash... Born 9-10-77 in Tucson, Ariz... Parents are Steve and Crissy Ash... Both parents graduated from the University of Arizona... Majoring in finance... Attended the Lute Olson basketball camps as a youngster for 12 years and worked as a counselor for one camp... As part of a superstition throughout the course of last three seasons, he and teammate Josh Pastner pretend to provide radio commentary at the team's shootaround on gamedays.
