General: Signed with the Wildcats during the early signing period last fall... Was one of the two recruits inked by Arizona during that time, joining Jason Gardner... An athletic combo-guard who can play any one of the three perimeter positions... Will be just 17 years old when he enrolls at the UA in the fall and doesn't turn 18 until Jan. 6, 2000... Was listed as the No. 4 shooting guard in the country by Prep Star Magazine and was included in the Orange County Register Best of the West Fab 15... Possesses great one-on-one skills... Can present match-up problems with his athletic ability... A big-time scorer, he scored 46 points against Conoga Park as a senior and ended up averaging 33.4 points per game that season.

High School: Attended Grant High School in Van Nuys, Calif., where he was a three-time Valley Pac-8 Player of the Year... Three time All-Los Angeles City Team as well... Grant High School's all-time leading scorer with 2,124 points... Averaged 33.4 ppg as a senior, 29.8 ppg as a junior and 22.5 ppg as a sophomore... Los Angeles Times San Fernando Valley Player of the Year award winner as a senior... Played for head coach Howard Levine, who said of Arenas, he the best offensive player that's been in this Valley, maybe forever... Slam Magazine Player of the Month for May 1999... Had a tremendous all-around season as a senior, averaging 33.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 3.0 apg, 4.7 spg and 2.0 bpg... As a junior went for 29.8 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 6.1 apg and 4.5 spg... During his sophomore season, averaged 22.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.0 apg and 3.2 spg... In his junior campaign, scored 49 points to go with 13 assists in a game versus current UA guard Ruben Douglas' Bellarmine-Jefferson squad... Also scored 42 points against Crenshaw High School in a state playoff game that year... Played in the Eddie Jones All Star Game... Also earned a letter in track

Personal: Gilbert Jay Arenas... Born 1-6-82... Son of Gilbert Arenas... Father is an actor who also works for UPS and also attended the University of Miami, where he played on the football team (1980) with Jim Kelly and Otis Anderson... Undecided in his choice of college major... Plays in a summer basketball league in Venice Beach, where he has gone up against current NBA players as Kobe Bryant, Chris Childs, Don MacLean and Tracy Murray... As a 14-year old played for an AAU team that reached the Final Four out of 86 teams in a tournament in West Virginia... Enjoys drawing, computer games, movies and walking.
