UA Player Quotes
Pre - Arizona State, LSU

Junior Loren Woods:
On comparing last week's road trip with this week's:
I don't know how much we learned on our last road trip, so we have to be ready. We survived at UCLA and when we played USC they just played exceptional basketball. USC just hit more kinds of shots then they had on their scouting report. This week guys just have to step up and realize that when they're coming into the game, that we're only seven deep. Everybody has to be mentally ready.

His thoughts on ASU:
Just like a lot of teams, Arizona State is going to play us as hard as they can. We definitely will have our hands full because they'll be fired up to play us in their house. No matter what the series record stands at we want to win. Our goal at the beginning of last week was to go 4-0 in this four-game stretch of away games. Now, we have to regroup and make sure that we come home 3-1.

Freshman Gilbert Arenas:
On guarding the PAC-10's leading scorer, ASU guard Eddie House:
I saw Eddie House play against Cal when he scored 61 and now I know that he shoots really, really fast. I don't know how he does it. I was Eddie House in our practice yesterday and all I know is that he must be in incredible shape. He leads their team in everything, so it's going to be tough. Yesterday we also did drills that are the same things that House does to get the ball. I ran around screens and shot shots whenever I thought I was open.

On his three-point shooting this year:
I'm frustrated because before I came here I shot three-pointers really well. My shot hasn't fallen all season here at Arizona. All I can do is keep shooting and it'll improve. Right now I'm focusing on my mid-range game.

Sophomore Mike Wright:
On throwing the elbow at USC:
The elbow came in the second half. I'm not that kind of a player. After the game, I told No. 44 (Abdullah Elmagbari) that I was sorry. I was frustrated out there, and I just threw the elbow in the heat of the moment. I hope everyone knows that I am not the kind of player to throw elbows. I am sorry for throwing it, and I apologized.

I am embarrassed by it (throwing the elbow), but I have to shake it off and come out the next game and play my heart out. That is not my style of play, but the referees are probably going to start watching me more. I am still going to play my game out there.

On his overall performance:
I need to work harder to get the ball, but if my offensive game doesn't come, I need to do other things like rebound and block shots. I need to do all of the little things to help us win.

On the game at Arizona State:
It is going to be a good battle because ASU is a hard place to play at, especially because of the whole Arizona-ASU rivalry. Eddie House is an excellent scorer and he will score 61a night if that's what he has to do to help his team win.

Freshman Jason Gardner:
On facing Arizona State in Tempe:
I know it's a big rivalry because it's in-state. It's about bragging rights over the whole summer, a couple of our players know ASU players. You want to win on your home court. Plus, it's Pac-10, so it's big there too. I know they have a tough crowd and they are off to a quick start, one of their best in school history. I expect a loud crowd. It prepares you for the tournament. You're not going to play in front of your home crowd in the tournament. Those are big games and this week's game gets you ready for those tournament games.

On last weekend's performance:
Both games were tough crowds.  We wanted to go 2- 0, but we came out 1-1.  It was a learning experience. USC played a good game. I like big crowds, whether they are your home crowd or not.  At home, if you're down, they pick you up.  And then on the road, you've got 10,000 people screaming at you, calling you names, that just fires me up.
 On ASU guard Eddie House:
With Eddie House, you have to limit his touches.  He's going to score regardless because he's a great scorer. The only way to slow him down is to limit his touches and hope he doesn't make the shots he does take.

On his overall peformance:
I've got to make quicker decisions.  If someone's not open, I can't give up the ball.  I just have to hang on a little longer to make my decisions. Coach O has pointed some things out to me on video and during the games. I didn't expect to be the leader, but I knew I was going to be some kind of leader because I'd always have the ball.   Coach Olson told me I was going to be a leader. I've been a leader for my whole life, but now it's just on a bigger level with more talent.  This team is helping me a lot. I still consider Loren (Woods) to be a leader because he's the big man in the middle.

On facing LSU on the road:
I think it's going to be a dogfight there, too.  It's going to help get us ready for the NCAA tournament.  We've had a great schedule this year and this is just part of it.
