TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Stanford's Carolyn Moos followed her own missed free throw with 7 seconds left to seal a 98-95 upset over No. 18 Arizona Saturday afternoon.
Arizona had closed the gap to 94-93 after Angela Lackey converted a pair of her school-record 15 free throws. Then Moos hit her first of two free throws and sank an 8-footer after missing the second.
Moos also made a free throw with 1.9 seconds remaining after a Felecity Willis lay-up reduced the Stanford lead to two. Arizona's Julie Brase's desperation shot from beyond the half-court line sailed off the back of the backboard.
Moos led the Cardinal (8-4, 1-1) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren St. Clair connected on five of Stanford's 13 three-pointers to score 19 points. Bethany Donaphin added 16 points, and Jamie Carey had 15 points.
The Wildcats (12-2, 1-1) were led by Lackey, who scored 21 points. Willis had 18 points and Brase added 16.
Stanford built its biggest lead of the game thanks to a string of three-pointers with just over 6 minutes remaining.
Stanford overcame a 10-point lead in the first half by making five three-pointers in the final six minutes to take a 51-46 edge at halftime.
