Arizona Defeats All-Stars, 86-83, In Exhibition Action

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Richard Jefferson capped an 18-point performance by hitting two free throws with 30 seconds remaining as No. 9 Arizona beat the California All-Stars 86-83 in an exhibition game Sunday night.

Ahead 84-83, Jefferson made two free throws to extend the Wildcat lead and then blocked a shot to prevent the All-Stars from closing the gap.

Jefferson also stepped up midway through the second half after Arizona fell behind by two. The sophomore forward hit consecutive 3-pointers to put the Wildcats ahead to stay.

Transfer center Loren Woods and freshman point guard Jason Gardner also scored 18 points for Arizona while Michael Wright had 14 and Gilbert Arenas added 11.

The California All-Stars were led by the 20-point effort from former UCLA standout Charles O'Bannon.
