Arizona Men and Women Cruise Past UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Arizona swimming program started off the 1 season with an all-around strong performance today, defeating UNLV at Buchanan Natatorium. The men won their meet by a score of 195.50-95.50, while the women notched a 227-67 victory.
On the men's side, senior Ryk Neethling was a three-event winner, as he notched his victories in the 1000 free (9:13.70), the 200 free (1:38.75) and the 500 free (4:26.60). Another strong performance on the men's side was turned in by sophomore Roland Schoeman , who was victorious in the 50 free (29.73) and the 100 fly (49.47). Also for the Wildcats, freshman Jeff Dash won the 200 fly (1:49.03), sophomore Kris Souther won the 200 back (1:50.90) and junior Ben Anderson won the 200 IM (1:54.46).
For the women senior Trina Jackson won the 1000 free (9:54.50) and the 500 free (4:52.59). Freshmen Beth Botsford and Amanda Beard each won two events, Botsford was victorious in the 100 back (56.98) and the 200 back (2:01.21) and Beard in the 100 Breast (1:03.59) and the 200 Breast (2:16.59). Sophomores Jenny Vanker and Sarah Tolar each won an event, Vanker won the 50 free (23.77) and Tolar won the 100 free (51.57).
In their next action, the Cats host Southern California, Friday,Nov. 12, at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center at 1 p.m. (PST). The next day the women will swim UCLA, Saturday, Nov. 13 at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center at 1 p.m. (PST).
