Johnson, Bouyer Advance in 400m Hurdles Qualifying
SACRAMENTO, Calif. Former Wildcat Michelle Johnson (1996) and Tucson Elite Athletic Club runner Nikkie Bouyer both advanced in the qualifying for the 400 meter hurdles at the United States Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hornet Stadium.
Johnson finished in 55.31 seconds, the best time of the night in the qualifying heats. She also beat the 1996 Olympic gold medallist, Kim Batten, who ran 56.17 in the same heat.
Bouyer finished second in her heat, running 56.18, the No. 8 qualifying time at the meet. Both will run tomorrow in the semifinals, 1:40 p.m. The top eight from the semis will advance to the finals, which are Monday, 8:35 p.m.
Another former Wildcat, Nicole Thomas (2000), ran 59.66 in her heat and did not advance to the finals of the event.
UA sophomore Brianna Glenn ran 11.56 in the semifinals of the 100 meters, but did not advance to the finals. Glenn finished seventh in her heat, 12th overall, and only the top four from each heat advance. Marion Jones won the heat in 10.93, the fastest time overall in semifinals.
Johnson and Bouyer will compete in the 400m hurdles' semifinals tomorrow, and Glenn will compete in the finals of the long jump.
