University of Arizona 2000 Olympic Qualifiers
- Arizona Athletes in the Olympics - Dates and Times
Eighteen current or former University of Arizona athletes will compete in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, which begin Wednesday Sept 13. The Arizona athletics department and arizcats.com will provide daily updates of the Wildcat athletes at the Olympics.
Below is a list of athletes who will be competing at the games:
Track and Field (7)
Abdi Abdirahman, 10,000m, U.S. (UA Class of 1999)
Erin Aldrich, high jump, U.S. (transferred from UA to Texas after 1997 sophomore year)
Klaus Ambrosch, decathlon, Austria (UA Class of 1998)
Dominic Johnson, pole vault, St. Lucia (UA Class of 1998)
Trecia Roberts, 100m high hurdles, Thiland (UA Class of 1994)
*Patrick Nduwimana, 800m, Burundi, (Will be senior in 2001)
Chima Ugwu, shot put and discus, Nigeria (UA Class of 1998)

*Amanda Beard, 200m Breaststroke, U.S. (Will be sophomore in 2000-01)
Chad Carvin, 400m freestyle and 800m free relay, U.S. (UA Class of 1995)
Ryk Neethling, 1,500m freestyle and 400m freestyle, South Africa (UA Class of 2000)

Note: There may be others athletes that will compete for foreign countries who we are have not heard of, but this is complete to our knowledge. UA cannot release the names of athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to compete at Arizona, but have not yet started school.
