Nduwimana Sets School 800m Record... Again

The University of Arizona's Patrick Nduwimana shaved more time off his school record 800 meter time last Friday in a phenomenal field of runners at the Weltklasse o Zurich in Switzerland.

Nduwimana, who finished his Arizona eligibility at the NCAA Championships in June, finished in 1 minute, 44.16 seconds, improving on his time of 1:44.16 Saturday, Aug. 5 at a meet in Belgium.

In the most recent race in Switzerland, the Burundi native finished sixth, but was behind five of the top 800m runners in the world, including Switzerland's Andre Bucher, who won the race in 1:43.72. The field at the meet will likely be very similar to that which lines up for the 800m final at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Nduwimana will continue to train in Europe for the Olympics throughout August. Although his eligibility has expired at UA, Nduwimana's times will continue to count through the Olympics, the end of the 2000 track and field season.
