Season Comes to an End for Wildcat Women's Tennis

MALIBU, Calif. - The year came to an end for two University of Arizona women's tennis players at the 2000 NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships in Malibu, Calif., on Monday.

One of the top-ranked doubles teams in the nation, Arizona junior Michelle Gough and sophomore Lindsay Blau fell to Wake Forest's Janet Bergman and Bea Bielik in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship, 6-2, 7-5.

The Wildcat duo ended the regular season ranked 10th nationally and compiled a 28-12 doubles record for the year.

Earlier in the day, Blau was unsuccessful in her bid to advance in the Singles Championship, as she was defeated by Georgia's Aarthi Venkatesan, 6-2, 6-0. Blau was making her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship.
