  OJAI, Calif. - Arizona junior Alex Aybar advanced to the sweet sixteen in the main draw at the Pac-10 Championships Thursday at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club. No. 54 Aybar defeated Ben Miles of California, 7-6, 6-1, but later fell short to Oregon's Thomas Schneiter, 6-4, 7-5.

Advancing in the first round and then falling in the second at the invitational singles draw were sophomores Jari Niskala, Caleb Marquardt, Bruno Aropovic, and freshman Tom Lloyd. In a round of 32 Lloyd overthrew Andrey Vinogradsky of California, 6-1, 6-4, but fell short to Stanford's Carter Morris, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Marquardt beat junior teammate Brian Jackson, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round, and then was disappointed by Ali Ansari of Stanford, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Wildcats will begin doubles play at the Pac-10 Championships Friday at 11:00 a.m.
