Seven players from the state of California will join the Wildcats next season. Defender SARAH BANKS, from Mission Viejo, Calif., was part of a Capistrano Valley High School defense which registered 19 shutouts en route to a CIF Divison I championship this year. Twin sisters from Dove Canyon, Calif., forward LIZ BARTLETT and defender SAMANTHA BARTLETT both played for Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Liz was an All-Sierra Catholic League selection and was her team's Best Offensive Player as a senior. Samantha was twice named Santa Margarita's Most Inspirational Player and was a member of the Senior All-Star Team.

Out of Irvine, Calif., forward SIERRA CRISTIANO was an All-Sea View League and all-city choice while setting school single-season and career scoring records at Woodbridge High School. A native of Lafayette, Calif., goalkeeper TAMARA KLEIN was a three-time team MVP and was named All-Tri-County Athletic League in both soccer and softball three years in a row while playing for Campolindo High School.

Defender MEAGHAN McNATT, from Chino Hills, Calif., was an All-CIF Southern Section and four-time All-Sierra League choice while at Ruben S. Ayala High School. At Los Alamitos (Calif.) High School, defender LISA MIRELES was her team's Most Valuable Player and was an All-Sunset League and Senior All-Star Team selection this year.

Three Arizona natives will be staying in their home state next year. From Glendale (Ariz.) Cactus High School, midfielder JENN MEINTEL was the Arizona 4A State Player of the Year this season and was a two-time first team All-Arizona honoree. Defender TARA MONTELEONE earned All-America honors and was a two-time All-Desert Valley Region selection at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, Ariz. Goalkeeper KYNAN SULLIVAN was a first team All-Arizona and four-time All-East Sky Region choice at Arcadia High School in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Two more defenders will join the Wildcat fold as well. While at Notre Dame Academy in Perrysburg, Ohio, ADRIENNE BELL was an All-Northwest Ohio District and All-Toledo honoree two years in a row. Out of Los Alamos (N.M.) High School, NOELLE STILLMAN twice earned first team All-New Mexico and all-district laurels.

"My staff and I went after hard-working, academically gifted and athletically focused players this year," said Klein, who was named the second-ever women's soccer coach at Arizona last January. "We're excited about all 12 of these recruits and the contributions they will make this fall. They will improve the depth at every position and will challenge the starters immediately.

"Our goal was to create a competitive 'cauldron' where 15 or more players would battle every practice for extensive playing time, and we've accomplished that with this class."

The 1999 Wildcats finished their season 7-10-2 overall and earned eighth place in the Pac-10 Conference with a 1-7-1 league record.

Arizona is scheduled to open the 2000 season during the first weekend of September with a road trip to Tennessee that will feature matches at the University of Tennessee and at Vanderbilt.
