Wildcat XC Runners Earn Academic Honors

Three University of Arizona cross country runners were named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic first teams today.

Sophomore Mike Cramer (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon del Oro HS) and senior Brent Pedersen (Aurora, Ore./Canby HS/Hawai'i Pacific) were named to the men's first team, and sophomore Tara Chaplin (Montpelier, Vt./U-32 HS) was named to the women's first team.

Wildcat senior Micheil Jones (Livermore, Calif./Livermore HS) was a second team honoree on the men's side, and junior Tom Prindiville (Antioch, Calif./De La Salle HS) earned honorable mention laurels. Sophomore Jennifer Burris (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala HS) and junior Katrin Engelen (Dornstetten, Germany/Univ. Of Hohenheim) were tabbed to the women's honorable mention list.

Cramer, who has a 3.75 grade point average in chemical engineering, was the Wildcats' No. 3 runner, finishing 74th at yesterday's NCAA Championships. Pedersen (3.78, ecology and evolutionary biology) was the team's No. 4 runner in 82nd. Chaplin (3.75, studio art) was the women's top finisher yesterday in 33rd.

The teams concluded their seasons yesterday at the NCAA Championships. The track and field season picks up Jan. 29, 2000, when the Wildcats travel to Reno, Nev. for the Silver State Games.
