Former UA Basketball Player Signs with Rockers

CLEVELAND, Ohio, July 6 -- The Cleveland Rockers signed 5-foot-11 free agent forward Adia Barnes to a seven-day contract after placing Eva Nemcova on the injured list. Nemcova suffered a complete tear of her left ACL on July 1 and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Barnes is a two-year veteran of the WNBA. She was drafted in the second round (32 overall) of the 1998 WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. During the 1998 season, she played in 29 games for Sacramento, averaging 7.6 points and 2.9 rebounds a game. Prior to the 1999 season, Barnes was selected by Minnesota in the expansion draft with the No. 7 pick. She only saw action in 19 games for the Lynx, averaging 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.8 minutes a game. On October 28, 1999, Barnes was part of a six-player trade between Minnesota and Phoenix. She was waived by the Phoenix Mercury on May 28, 2000.

Barnes has joined the Rockers in Miami and will be eligible to play in Friday night's game against the Sol. She will wear No. 32.
