12.11.1999 Lackey Leads Arizona To Win Over Texas Southern
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Angela Lackey scored 19 points as No. 19 Arizona defeated Texas Southern 96-46 Friday night in the opening round of the Insight.com Bowl Classic. Indiana defeated Middle Tennessee 81-68 in the other game and will face Arizona for the championship on Sunday. Texas Southern scored the game's first two points but Arizona then went on a 15-0 run. The Wildcats (7-0) extended the margin to 48-18 at halftime as Monika Crank and Lisa Griffith sparked a 13-0 run with consecutive 3-pointers. The Wildcats' largest lead came when Lackey converted a three-point play with 28 seconds left to put them up 52 points. Tatum Brown had 15 points for Arizona, while Elizabeth Pickney added 13 and Griffith had 10. Tonya Thomas led Texas Southern with 19 points. |
