2000-01 Men's Basketball Television Schedule Announced
TUCSON, Ariz. - Once again, the University of Arizona men's basketball program will receive extensive television coverage, as 29 games are scheduled to be televised live in 2000-01.
Twenty-nine of the Wildcats' 31 games are scheduled to be televised, including its preseason scrimmage and two exhibitions tilts. The schedule features 14 national appearances with seven games offered nationally on Fox Sports Net, four games slated for CBS-TV, two on ESPN and one on ABC-TV.
Fox Sports Net Arizona will also produce 16 games to be shown in the Arizona market, including three appearances on Tucson's KWBA-TV 58.
The Cats open the 2000-01 regular season at the Maui Invitational on Nov. 21 vs. Chaminade (9 a.m. HDT). It is the first of two regularly-scheduled ESPN appearances this year. Arizona's Dec. 16 contest vs. Illinois (11 a.m. CST) is also tabbed for an ESPN broadcast. The Cats could make two additional appearances on ESPN as part of the Maui Invitational, bringing the total number of national appearances to 16.
Saturday, Dec. 9 marks the first of four CBS-TV broadcasts, as Arizona takes on Connecticut at 4 p.m. EST. It is the first of four appearances on the network, including Jan. 6 vs. Stanford (time TBA), Jan. 20 vs. UCLA (11:30 a.m. MST), Feb. 17 at USC (11 a.m. PST).
The Wildcats' lone appearance on ABC-TV is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27, as the squad plays to Texas. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m. MST.
The regular season home schedule opens with a Fox Sports Net telecast Wednesday, Nov. 29, vs. Gonzaga at 8 p.m. MST. FSN will also televise the Dec. 20 contest vs. Louisiana State (8:30 MST) in addition to five of Arizona's Pacific-10 Conference match-ups.
Fox Sports Net Arizona begins its coverage of UA basketball on Wednesday, Nov. 1, as the network will televise the Pepsi Red/Blue Game (6:30 p.m. MST). FSNA will also televise the Marathon exhibition (Nov. 17/7:30 p.m. MST), St. Mary's (Dec. 2/6 p.m. MST) and the Wildcats Bank One Fiesta Bowl appearances, Dec. 28-30. The network will also carry seven UA Pac-10 games.
KWBA tips-off its coverage with the EA Sports/California All-Stars exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 5 (5 p.m. MST). Its coverage continues on Saturday, Nov. 25, when the Wildcats take on Purdue (3:30 p.m. EST) in the second half of the Wooden Tradition doubleheader in Indianapolis. The Pac-10 game on Jan. 4 vs. California (6:30 p.m. MST) is also on the KWBA docket.
Arizona's Jan. 11 game at Washington State and the March 8 game at Stanford and remain tentative at this point. UA is awaiting a ruling for an exception to broadcast the Jan. 11 contest locally on KWBA. Regarding the March 8 game, Fox Sports Net has the option of selecting a game that may be crucial in the Pacific-10 Conference standings. A decision on that game will be made 14 days in advance.
