Men's Basketball Oct. 28 Scrimmage Open to the Public
TUCSON, Ariz. - The preseason No. 1 University of Arizona men's basketball team continues its warm-up for the 2000-01 campaign with a scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 28. The scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in McKale Center.
The Wildcats, top-ranked nationally in at least five preseason college basketball polls, return all five starters and 10 letterwinners from last season's 27-7 club that captured a share of the Pac-10 Championship and was a No. 1 seed in the 2000 NCAA Tournament.
Led by preseason Player of the Year candidate Loren Woods, all five Arizona returning starters were named to the Wooden Award Preseason Watch List, the first time in the 25-year history of the award that one school has had five players on the preseason list.
The scrimmage, scheduled to run until 1:30 p.m., will feature the Wildcats' 16-man roster split into two evenly-matched teams.
The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
Arizona opens the 2000-01 campaign with the Pepsi Red/Blue Game on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The squad opens the regular season on Monday, Nov. 20, at the Maui Invitational against Chaminade.
