Post-Game Quotes

ARIZONA HEAD COACH MIKE CANDREA
Tonight's ball game was an example of emotion, guts and will to win with our team. I just can't be any prouder of a group of young ladies because tonight they gave everything they had and we knew that is what it would take. Washington is a very good ball club. I am just very pleased that we are continuing to play.

On the key to the game:
I just think getting on the board early was a huge key for us and putting the ball in play and getting some speed on base so we could make some things happen. I think that is Arizona softball; we need to do that to be successful. I felt comfortable tonight that we were taking some good cuts at the plate. I saw our kids make some adjustments and have some terrific at bats.

JUNIOR OUTFIELDER NICOLE GIORDANO
On eliminating Washington and her sister Jeanine:
.I wish we could have played Washington in the championship game and we would have won. Washington is a great team and they put up a great fight against us. I think one of us had to go home and on any given day anyone can beat anyone. I thought we played a great game.

SOPHOMORE PITCHER JENNIE FINCH
On the importance of starting the game focused:
For example, one pitch can lead to a home run. Anything can happen with one pitch. In big games you have to stay focused. You have to look at every batter and every pitch rather than outs and innings.

WASHINGTON HEAD COACH TERESA WILSON
This is a tough evening for us. I'm proud of this group of seniors and what they did and where they have taken our program. We'll go home tomorrow and start working on finding a way back next year. You have to have talent, jell and peak at the right time and stay injury free. Once all of those things are in place and you get here it's who's hot and who gets the breaks and a little luck on their side. We didn't come up with that this week.

On getting behind early:
I think it was the key to the week. I don't think you could find three straight games all year that we were behind in three games. It just seemed to be a pattern this week. You can't play average and win these games.

SENIOR PITCHER JENNIFER SPEDIACCI
On health and pitching:
I'm one of the ones that's sick but it usually doesn't bother me too much because I usually pitch better when I'm sick. I felt good pitching wise. My curve ball started to come back.

On the season:
It's hard to describe my four years here (at Washington). It's hard to believe we're done but it will sink in when we get back. It wasn't the way we wanted it to end but it was really a good game. It's been a great four years.

SENIOR INFIELDER ROSIE LEUTZINGER
On looking at the game like it's a regular game:
I don't think so. Because with a loss already, we knew it was do or die. We think about it being our last game. You have to think about it, there's no way not to. But I don't think it changed our game.
