Arizona Tops California 4-1 in Softball
TUCSON-No. 2-ranked Arizona and No. 7 California stranded a combined 14 base runners but the Wildcats took advantage of more opportunities because of 11 hits in a 4-1 Pac-10 softball victory over the Golden Bears. Arizona improved to 41-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in league action. Cal dropped to 38-10 and 2-4.
Cal took a 1-0 lead in the third when Amber Phillips drew a walk, was sacrificed to second by Pauline Duenas and scored on Krista Morley's bloop single down the line in left.
Arizona took the lead in the fourth. Lindsey Collins walked, moved to second on a wild pitch by Jocelyn Forrest and scored on Chrissy Gil's single to left. Gil continued to second on the throw to the plate and scored on Nicole Giordano's double down the right field line. Nicole DiSalvio replaced Forest and gave up an RBI single to Katie Swan
UA's Becky Lemke (22-3) earned the victory. Forrest (18-6) took the loss. Lemke gave up six hits.
Arizona continues weekend Pac-10 action with games at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, both against the Stanford Cardinal. California travels to Arizona State for a pair of games at the same times Saturday and Sunday.
