Arizona Softball Tops Oregon In Extra Innings

Box Score

TUCSON-Allison Andrade's eighth-inning single gave Arizona a 3-2 victory over Oregon in both teams' Pac-10 opener Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Jennie Finch walked to lead off the inning and Lindsey Collins doubled to left center. After an intentional walk to Chrissy Gil, Andrade lined a single into left field to drive in Finch.

UA pitcher Becky Lemke allowed only two hits and struck out 11 in improving her record to 20-3. UO's Connie McMurren (9-9) took the loss, allowing 10 hits but holding the Cats largely punchless. Lemke retired the last 13 Oregon hitters.

UA had a chance to win in the bottom of the seventh. Consecutive singles by Nicole Giordano and Katie Swan moved the winning run into scoring position but Giordano was called for runner's interference on the next play and Lauren Bauer grounded out to end the threat. A two-run home run by Lindsey Welch gave Oregon (23-12) an early lead in the second inning. Two innings later, Arizona (37-3) tied the game on an RBI single by Gil and a sacrifice fly by Andrade.

The Ducks travel to Tempe for games at Arizona State Saturday and Sunday, while Arizona will play host to Oregon State at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
