Cats Win Bama Bash Softball Tourney

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--A couple more strong pitching performances by Becky Lemke and Jennie Finch, and what seems to be a prototypical Arizona 2000 offensive outburst helped Arizona to a pair of softball victories in the Bama Bash tournament here Sunday.

UA beat Drake 18-0 behind three-hit, 10-strikeout pitching by Lemke and the Cats pounded 19 hits, including three apiece by Chrissy Gil and Lauren Bauer. The latter knocked two doubles. First baseman Jennie Finch hit her ninth home run of the season.

In the title game, Finch pitched a five-hitter and struck out 10 in the Cats' 6-1 victory over DePaul. She knocked her 10th homer of the season.

Arizona outscored opponents 54-3 during the tournament in its six games, beating DePaul 3-0, Drake 9-0, host Alabama 6-2, Georgia Tech 12-0, Drake 18-0 and DePaul 6-1.

Centerfielder Nicole Giordano (12 hits), shortstop Allison Andrade (eight hits, four doubles and a tournament-high 11 RBI), Lemke (3-0, 0.39 ERA) and Finch (3-0 including a perfect game against Drake on Friday, 0.41 ERA; plus three home runs and eight RBI) earned All-Tournament honors.

No. 3-ranked Arizona improved to 20-1 on the year.
