TUCSON, Ariz.--Becky Lemke pitched a five-inning no-hitter and UA's batters smacked 11 hits to pace No. 4-ranked Arizona to a 9-1 victory over No. 5 Southern Mississippi in its season opener and game two of the Pepsi Softball Classic.

Lemke's own throwing error led to the Lady Eagles' only run in the fifth when she followed the error with three walks to force in a run.

Wildcat outfielder Nicole Giordano singled and later scored on a wild pitch to pace UA to a 1-0 lead in the third and UA first baseman Jennie Finch hit a solo home run in the fourth. Lindsey Collins added a two-run homer to left-center in the fifth for the Cats (1-0). UA scored seven times in the frame to end the game on the mercy rule.

Southern Miss dropped to 0-2 after losing earlier in the day to Washington, 9-4.

No. 2-ranked Washington made the most of six hits by socking three home runs in a 9-4 victory over No. 5 Southern Mississippi in both teams' season opener in the Arizona Pepsi Softball Classic.

UW's Jaime Clark and Jeanine Giordano hit solo homers off USM All-American Courtney Blades in the second inning and Erin Helgeland knocked a two-run home run off reliever Nicole Bohnenstiehl in the fifth.

UW's Jennifer Spediacci earned the victory, allowing four hits and three runs through five innings. Lady Eagles' second baseman Colleen Spencer hit a one-out three-run double in the fifth but was caught off second to turn back the rally.
