Diggins Srikes Out 12 in Cats' Victory

Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz.Sophomore right-hander Ben Diggins struck out 12 batters over seven innings, and junior right fielder Ryan O'Donnell drove in four runs as Arizona topped Cal State Northridge, 6-1, in Tucson Friday night.

The Cats improved to 32-25 with the non-conference win, while CSUN fell to 18-27.

Diggins (9-3) allowed six hits, all singles, without walking a batter. It marked the first time in Diggins' 29 career starts that he did not allow a base on balls. His 12 strike outs were one shy of his career best. Diggins, who broke a personal three-game winning streak, is the first Arizona pitcher to earn nine victories in a season since Scott Erickson in 1989.

O'Donnell hit a three-run homer in the third and drove in a fourth with a single in the eighth. All four of his RBI came with two outs.

Sophomore left fielder Tim Arroyo collected a pair of hits for Cal State Northridge, and senior designated hitter Adrian Mendoza drove in the Matadors' only run with a two-out single in the sixth. Sophomore lefty Andy Davidson (3-6) took the loss.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. at Sancet Field
