Huff Hits for Cycle as Cats Pound Cougars
TUCSON, Ariz.Sophomore left fielder Kenny Huff became the ninth player in Arizona history to hit for the cycle as the Cats pounded Washington State, 21-3, in Tucson Saturday afternoon.
The Cats improved to 22-25 with the win, 7-11 in Pac-10 play. The Cougars fell to 16-26 and 4-11.
Huff drove in four runs and registered five of Arizona's season-high 28 hits. He tripled in the first, singled in the second, homered in the sixth, singled again in the seventh and doubled to left center in his final plate appearance in the eighth to complete the Cats' first cycle since Menno Wickey did so on Feb. 19, 1995, vs. Hawaii-Hilo. Sophomore third baseman Erik Torres went back-to-back with Huff in the sixth.
The Cats posted multiple runs in six of their eight at-bats. Sophomore Ben Diggins, scored five runs and also hit his eighth home run of the season. Diggins and junior right fielder Ryan O'Donnell each collected four hits.
Senior left-hander Tony Milo (4-6) worked seven innings, allowing two runs, to pick up the win for Arizona. Senior righty Reggie Rivard (0-4) took the loss, allowing four runs without recording an out. The Cougars used seven pitchers in the contest.
Arizona returns to action next Friday, April 28, when it plays host to Cal State Northridge in the first of a three-game non-conference series at Sancet Field at 7 p.m.
