Lunetta Homers Twice as USC Tops Cats, 20-9
TUCSON, Ariz.Freshman second baseman Anthony Lunetta homered twice and drove in five as No. 16 Southern California defeated Arizona, 20-9, in Tucson Saturday afternoon, evening the Pac-10 series at one game each.
USC improved to 21-10 on the season, 4-1 in league play. The Cats fell to 18-19 and 3-5.
Lunette hit a three-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the seventh. Senior third baseman Justin Gemoll also had a three-run homer and collected four RBI. Junior shortstop Seth Davidson scored three times and drove in four.
Junior right-hander Rik Currier improved to 7-2 with six innings of work for the Trojans. Arizona senior southpaw Rob Shabansky (1-3) was charged with seven runs, though just two were earned.
Sophomore designated hitter Ben Diggins led the Cats at the plate with three hits.
The two teams will conclude their series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sancet Field.
