Deininger Shuts Down Cats for 8-3 Aggie Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas---Freshman right-hander Todd Deininger pitched eight strong innings, and Texas A&M made a four-run first stand up as the Aggies took the second of a three-game series with Arizona, 8-3, in College Station Saturday afternoon.

Texas A&M improved to 4-6 win the win, while the Cats fell to 10-7.

The Aggies scored four in the first off Wildcat starter Brian Pemble (3-1). The sophomore lefty lasted just one-plus innings after allowing hits to five of the first seven A&M batters.

The Cats rallied for three runs in the fourth to pull within one. Junior shortstop Keoni DeRenne's two-run single capped the inning, but the Cats could pull no closer.

Deininger (2-1) held Arizona to six hits and just three after the fourth inning. He struck out eight while walking two.

Senior Mike Meyer came on in relief of Pemble for the Cats and threw a career-high six innings. He struck out six and allowed just two earned runs. Arizona matched its season high with five errors, permitting two additional Aggie runs off of Meyer.

Junior first baseman Ernie Durazo extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 with a sixth-inning single.

The two teams conclude their series Sunday at 1 p.m.
