Diggins' Complete Game Leads Cats to Victory over Aggies
COLLEGE STATION, Texas-Sophomore right-hander Ben Diggins allowed just one unearned run in pitching Arizona's first complete game of the season, leading the Cats to a 4-1 victory over Texas A&M here Friday afternoon.
With their third straight win, the Cats improved to 10-6. The Aggies fell to 3-6.
Diggins (3-0) gave up six hits, all singles, while striking out a season-high nine batters. Diggins has allowed just four extra-base hits in 32.2 innings of work this year.
Junior first baseman Ernie Durazo extended his career-best hitting streak to 12 with a fourth inning triple that gave the Cats the lead. Junior third baseman Erik Torres then drove Durazo in with a ground out.
A&M's sophomore lefty Grant Gregg also went the distance, allowing four runs on 11 hits. He struck out eight while walking just one. Junior right fielder Daylon Holt went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored the Aggies' only run.
The two teams meet again Saturday at 2 p.m. CST in the second contest of the three-game series.
