UA Beats Oregon State, 4-1, For 1st PAC-10 Win of Season
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Arizona women's soccer team notched its first Pacific-10 Conference win of the season, and snapped a 20-game conference winless streak, with a 4-1 win over Oregon State in front of a crowd of 752 at Murphey Stadium Friday night.
The Wildcats' last Pac-10 win came Oct. 26, 1997 against Oregon State, a 2-0 victory.
Arizona sophomore forward Kristi Loroa (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon del Oro HS) had her first career hat trick, and only the fourth in school history, scoring three goals to lead the Wildcats. Loroa's first goal came at the 16:45 mark. Sophomore forward Kim McGehee (San Diego, Cailf./La Costa Canyon HS) shot a pass under Beaver goalkeeper Elizabeth Peace, which Loroa knocked in from 10 feet out.
After an Oregon State goal at 25:16 by Dante Lipfert tied the score at 1-1, Loroa scored again. This time she put a shot on a breakaway past Peace at the 25:54 mark. Junior forward Chrissy Sanford (Newbury, CA/Newbury Park HS) scored the third goal of the night at 26:40 on a breakaway. Loroa capped the night at 66:39, lobbing a goal over the backup Oregon State goalie Jerika Duran on a breakaway.
Oregon State outshot the Wildcats 17-11, including 10-7 in shots on goal, but Arizona junior goalkeeper Inger Airheart (Roseville, Calif./Oakmont HS) tied a career-high with 10 saves, eight in the second half.
Arizona's four goals brings its season total to 30, setting a new school record. Sanford's goal tied her with former Wildcat Christine Keeley for most in a single season with 11.
